Toys toys toys!

This week we have been designing, planning and making our own toys!

Lots of hard work has gone into both our plans and our making!

In maths we have been looking at place value and making 2 or 3 digit numbers with Deines blocks.

Our science this week has been looking at materials. We have learned about the names and properties of different materials and during our science lesson we did an experiment to see which material was waterproof and which martial would be good for an umbrella.

In PSHE  we have been learning about road safety and the best way to cross the roads. We even had a real police man to help us!

Chicks and cave building!

In science we have been talking about habitats of animals we keep as pets. We have been lucky enough to have the Christchurch chicks in our class this week! Miss Alinson came and spoke to us about what the chicks need in their habitats. We even got to hold them!

In Literacy we went to the outside area and made caves for cave baby!

We also had a great time on Red Nose Day!

Croc, bird and capacity!

This week in Literacy we worked in groups to make story maps of our key text Croc and Bird!

From our story maps we made the story our own by changing the characters and then wrote incredible extended writing… with cursive handwriting!

In maths we have been looking at capacity and what half full, full and empty looks like. We had a very fun (and very wet!) lesson, estimating how many cups of water would fill different containers.

In RE we have been learning about Lent and the story of Easter. We used drama to think about how Jesus felt.

The discussion about where we find crosses and what they represent for Christians was interesting and yummy because we tried hot cross buns too!

World book week!

This week has been world book week. We have paired up with Year 4 to read with us and towards the end of this week we have been writing books together. We have really enjoyed it and are even thinking of carrying on reading buddies for the rest of the year!

In maths we have been learning how to tell the time to the hour and half an hour. We have been time whizzes!

What fantastic costumes we had!

Space and habitats

This week we had our planetarium space workshop! We learnt about exploding stars, galaxies and the international space station. We had so much fun!

In science we have been learning about the habitats of animals that live in our environment.  We went for a habitat and bug walk to see what types of animals live in our environment.

Rain gauges and measure!

In science we have been looking at the weather and in particular, rain. We thought about what it feels like outside when it rains and what it looks like. We then made our very own rain gauges to measure rainfall and buried them on the roof garden to see how much we could catch!

In maths we have begun to look at measure in a standard measure. We’ve been estimating too!

Shadows and symmetry!

This week in Science we have been learning about shadows and what causes them. We worked in groups, using torches to make shadows around our classroom!

Later on we went into the playground to find shadows made by natural light.

In PE we are working on our ball skills and learning how to work in a team.

Shadows and Chinese New Year!

This week in science we have begun to look at shadows. We have been discussing what a shadow is and how it is made. We discussed the different things that give us light and different things that can cause shadows.

In PE we have been working on our ball skills and most importantly we have been learning how to work in teams!

Today we had a very exciting collective worship… A Chinese dragon dance to celebrate the beginning of the year of the Rooster!

It was very exciting but some of us found it a little bit too loud!

Another week of fantastic effort and learning from all of us in Team HB!

A week of forgiveness!

This week in RE we have been learning all about the Lord’s Prayer and what each section means. We have been focusing on the line “forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us”. Here we are acting out the different ways we can forgive our friends if they upset us.

In maths this week we have been working with Diene’s. We have learnt what each individual Diene’s block is worth (1) and how much a stick is worth (10). Then we matched the pictures and the numbers in pairs!
